A deck boat is a V hull with the seating carried forward into the bow. You give up some of the open deck a pontoon gives you, and you get back a boat that cuts through a wake instead of slapping over it.
Shallotte Inlet to the east gives ocean access, and the inside water either side of it is calm on most days.
The V hull is the whole point. On a busy summer weekend, when every passing boat leaves a wall behind it, a deck boat crosses that wake instead of dropping onto it. If anybody aboard is prone to feeling it, this is the hull to ask for.
Deck boats are usually rigged with enough motor to pull a tube or a skier without labouring. Confirm with the operator that towing is permitted on that particular boat before you turn up with a tube, because permission varies.
Room without the footprint of a large tritoon. Capacity is a legal limit printed on each boat, so give us your head count and let the operator size it.
When it is the wrong boat
If you are taking ten people and a cooler for a slow day at a sandbar, a pontoon gives you far more usable deck for the money. And if the plan is fishing an inlet, that is a center console, which comes through a club.
Where the boat actually is
The Waterway runs directly behind the island here and the water is protected, which makes it one of the easier places on this coast to take a first time crew out.

This is the quietest water in our coverage, and the least busy on a summer weekend.
The village is small and the run to the inlet is short, which makes it a practical starting point rather than a scenic one.
We route your request to operators working the water nearest to you, so you do not have to guess which of these is closest or which has a deck boat free on your dates. Send the dates once and let them answer.

Capacity is a legal limit printed on each individual boat, not a general figure, so we will not guess it for you. Give us your head count first and the operator sizes the boat to it. Going over the rated capacity is both unsafe and an insurance problem.
Usually not. Operators generally hold rental deck boats to protected inside water and keep them out of the inlets and the open Atlantic. That limit comes from the operator and their insurer. Confirm it in writing before you plan a day around going outside.
Fuel almost never is, and cleaning fees, damage deposits and the insurance deductible are usually separate too. Ask for all four in writing before you pay anything. That one question prevents most of the complaints we hear.
