No-wake zone

Water where you may not throw a wake: posted zones, and everywhere within 50 feet of docks, anchored boats and swimmers.

No-wake means idle speed: just enough throttle to steer, hull level, water barely folding at the bow. South Carolina posts zones at marinas, bridges and crowded stretches, and draws a standing 50 foot circle around anchored vessels, wharves, piers, docks and people in the water.

The zones are where boats, docks and swimmers share close quarters, and your wake keeps your name on it the whole way to whatever it hits. Level the boat fully in the zone; plowing bow-high through at half throttle is the most common way to fail it.

Inside 50 feet of an anchored boat, a dock, a pier or a person in the water: idle speed, no wake. Your wake, your bill.
